PALs & BLS Recertification
1:00 pm -5:00 pm Where: UNLV Dental School 1001 Shadow Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89106 Please join us for our PALS & BLS recertification course geared towards dental providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. Throughout your course, you'll learn to assess, recognize and provide high-quality care to pediatric patients experiencing life-threatening medical emergencies. In addition, our course will challenge your critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and help improve your teamwork skills to provide better patient care. This course is only valid for re-certification, you need a valid PALs & BLS credentials to participate. This is a hybrid computer and in-person course, where you will complete a pre-assessment online, prior to the course, and complete the skills portion and post-assessment in-person. Pediatric Oral Pathology with Dr. Yepes: Obstructive Sleep Apnea & Oral Manifestations of Systemic Diseases
(7 CEs) 9:00 am-5:00 pm Where: Vdara, Hotel and Spa, 2600 W. Harmon Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89158 This course will review pediatric oral pathology and oral medicine. The first part of the course will provide the attendee with the most up-to-date information regarding the fascinating and emerging field of sleep apnea in children and cover the entire spectrum of sleep apnea in children and the dentist role. The second part will cover the most common oral manifestations of systemic diseases, dental protocols of medically compromised children, and oral lesions. Dr. Yepes will use case-presentation as the learning and discussion format for course. This course is intended to fulfill 7 CEs. The Course Objectives: -Understand the fundamentals of sleep apnea diagnosis - Learn the most updated treatment of sleep apnea in children -Learn the role of the dentist in the identification & treatment of children with sleep apnea -Understand the importance of “building” a differential diagnosis based on the clinical presentation of oral lesions -Learn the most common oral manifestations of systemic diseases -Learn the most updated treatment for some of the oral manifestations of systemic diseases -Understand the importance of the dental management of medically compromised children -Learn the most common dental protocols for medically compromised children. Juan F. Yepes DDS, MD, MPH, MS, DrPH is a professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and the associate dean for graduate education at Indiana University School of Dentistry and an attending at Riley Children Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Juan F. is also a clinical professor at the University at Buffalo. He is a dentist (DDS) and a physician (MD) from Javeriana University at Bogotá, Colombia. In 1999, Juan F. moved to the USA and attended the University of Iowa and the University of Pennsylvania where he completed a fellowship and residency in Radiology and Oral Medicine respectively in 2002 and 2004. In 2006, Juan F. completed a Master in Public Health (MPH), and in 2011 a Doctoral Degree in Public Health (DrPH) both with emphasis in Epidemiology at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. In 2008, Juan F. completed a residency program in Dental Public Health at University of Texas, Baylor College of Dentistry. Finally, Juan F. completed a residency program and a master in pediatric dentistry at the University of Kentucky in 2012.
